On February 4, 2025, I had the immense honor of attending the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for Ahni House, the second Child Advocacy Center established by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Located in Hugo, OK, this facility represents a vital step forward in providing comprehensive support for children and families affected by child abuse.

Ahni House will serve as a sanctuary for those in need, offering wraparound services designed to provide care, support, and hope. The facility will be staffed with a full-time Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, a forensic interviewer, and an advocate, ensuring that every child who walks through its doors receives the attention and assistance they deserve. Under the umbrella of the Choctaw Nation’s Behavioral Health Department, Ahni House will also have access to mental health services, ensuring a holistic approach to healing for both children and their families.

The opening of Ahni House is the culmination of years of dedication and hard work, spearheaded by Sandy Hall and her incredible team. Their unwavering commitment to this cause has brought to life a place that will change lives for generations to come.

During the ceremony, District 1 Tribal Councilman and Speaker Thomas Williston captured the significance of this milestone perfectly when he said, “Ahni House allows Choctaw Nation to give our children and grandchildren services we never had, and for that we should all be proud.” His words resonated deeply, reminding us all of the importance of building a future where no child has to suffer in silence.

I am incredibly proud of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and deeply grateful for the opportunity to witness this historic moment. The opening of Ahni House marks a new chapter in our ongoing commitment to protecting and uplifting our most vulnerable members—our children. Together, we are forging a brighter future, one where every child has access to the support and are they need to heal and thrive.
