Second Round Applications Open! Print OVC’s Child Victims and Witnesses Support Materials

The Native Child Victims and Witnesses Support Materials, available on the Office for Victims of Crime’s website for free download, intend to support children and young people in Native communities between the ages of 2 and 18 who may need to interact with tribal, state, and/or federal justice systems. Organizations can now apply for subawards for printed materials up to $10,000 worth. The Center has subcontracted with a printing agency to print and ship the materials to selected applicants.

The materials, which were developed by the Center for Justice Innovation in collaboration with the National Native Children’s Trauma Center, and other tribal justice leaders, feature artwork and stories created by Native artists and authors. Booklets are available for different age groups (ages 2 to 6, 7 to 12, and 13 to 18), and for different environments including criminal court and child welfare.

The resources—culturally-specific, inclusive, trauma-informed booklets for different age groups —walk readers through situations they may encounter in a developmentally-appropriate manner. Each illustrated narrative provides information on how the legal system works; rights of children and youth; the roles of the practitioners they might meet, and ways they can cope with the feelings that might come up for them during the process.

NOW AVAILABLE:

To further assist national distribution and use of these materials, agencies can apply for printed materials up to $10,000 worth. The Center has subcontracted with a printing agency to print and ship the materials to selected applicants.

● Applications for this opportunity will be accepted from agencies that work directly with child victims and witnesses.

● Priority will be given to agencies that are either based in rural areas or Tribal lands, or who work directly with child victims and witnesses in rural or Native American communities, and who demonstrate a clear need for this printing opportunity.
